the Rock

lies dusty on the ground
trampled on the hardened road
between Nazareth and Cana

once buried under dirt and grass
the wearied steps of the exhausted messenger
and the rambling paces of the restless wanderer
and the determined wheels of the trader's cart
and the humble feet of The Carpenter
have worn away the dust on top
revealing the cryptic surface
